2024 Emmy Nominations Unveiled

The nominations for the 2024 Emmy Awards have been announced, with FX’s Shogun leading the pack with 25 nods, including Best Drama Series. The announcements were made Wednesday morning by Tony Hale, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Television Academy chair Cris Abrego during a livestreamed event at the El Capitan Theatre.

The Bear followed closely with 23 nominations, while Only Murders in the Building earned 21. Other top contenders include True Detective: Night Country with 19 nominations and The Crown with 18.

Tony Hale, known for his three Emmy wins, two of which were for his role in HBO’s Veep, and Sheryl Lee Ralph, who won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2022 for her role in Abbott Elementary, were among the presenters. Abbott Elementary concluded its third season in May and has been renewed for a fourth season.

The 76th Emmy Awards will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 15, from 5-8 p.m. PT / 8-11 p.m. ET on ABC. The Creative Arts Emmy ceremonies will take place on Saturday, September 7, and Sunday, September 8. The main ceremony will be executive produced by Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay for the second consecutive year, although a host has yet to be announced.

The 2023 Emmy Awards were held in January 2024 due to delays caused by the writers and actors strikes, with the ceremony airing on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. That event saw HBO’s Succession, FX’s The Bear, and Netflix’s Beef winning the top prizes in the drama, comedy, and limited series categories, respectively. All three shows also won for writing and directing, marking a significant moment as Succession concluded its final season.
