‘The Bear’ Breaks Emmy Nomination Record for 2024

FX’s hit series, The Bear, starring Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, has set a new benchmark for Emmy nominations in the comedy category, earning a staggering 23 nods. This achievement surpasses the previous record held by 30 Rock, which garnered 22 nominations in 2009.

Jeremy Allen White has been nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto. White won his first Emmy in this category last year and has also collected two Golden Globes and a SAG Award for his performance. Ayo Edebiri, who plays Sydney Adamu, is nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, following her first Emmy win for the same role last year.

Supporting cast members Liza Colón-Zayas, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Lionel Boyce have also received Emmy nominations, with Colón-Zayas up for Supporting Actress and Moss-Bachrach and Boyce for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

The Bear is competing against Abbott Elementary, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hacks, Palm Royale, Reservation Dogs, and What We Do in the Shadows for Best Comedy Series. Created by Christopher Storer, the show received 23 nominations in total, including nods for Best Comedy Series, Writing for a Comedy Series, and Casting. Guest actor nominations include Jon Bernthal, Bob Odenkirk, and Will Poulter, while Olivia Colman and Jamie Lee Curtis are nominated for Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.

FX’s Shogun leads the Emmy race with 25 nominations this year. The third season of The Bear, which premiered on June 27, has been a significant success, with Hulu reporting 5.4 million views worldwide within the first four days of release.

To be eligible for the 2024 Emmys, television programs must have aired between June 1, 2023, and May 31, 2024. The 76th Emmy Awards will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 15, from 5-8 p.m. PT / 8-11 p.m. ET on ABC.
