Tom Hardy is set to reprise his role as the Marvel anti-hero Venom for one last adventure. The actor features prominently in the newly released trailer for Venom: The Last Dance, which is promoted as the final installment of Hardy’s trilogy. In these films, he plays Eddie Brock, a journalist who merges with an alien symbiote to form Venom.
Hardy’s involvement in the Venom series goes beyond acting; he has also contributed to the story, earning a story by credit for The Last Dance as well as the previous film, Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021). His frequent collaborator, Kelly Marcel, takes on the role of director for this final chapter, set to debut on October 25.
The Last Dance follows the unexpected success of Venom (2018), which grossed $856.1 million worldwide. Hardy’s subsequent film, Let There Be Carnage (2021), also performed well, earning $506.8 million despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and a declining interest in superhero movies.
The Venom series has been a notable success for Sony, especially as the studio attempts to build a cinematic universe around Spider-Man’s supporting characters. Unlike other releases such as Morbius (2022) and Madame Web (2023), which earned significantly less, Hardy’s films have maintained strong box office numbers. The release of The Last Dance will be a critical test of the franchise’s continued appeal amid a saturated superhero film market. Sony is also preparing to release Kraven the Hunter on December 13, shortly after The Last Dance. The cast of The Last Dance includes Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
