Warner Bros made a significant impact at CineEurope, showcasing an extended preview of Twisters, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, this action thriller will launch internationally on July 17, with its domestic release via Universal set for July 19.
The presentation concluded with a brand-new trailer for Todd Phillips’ highly anticipated sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. Although audiences got their first glimpse during April’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the fresh footage shown today in Barcelona has yet to be released online. The film is slated for an international release on October 2, followed by a domestic debut on October 4.
Kicking off the Warner Bros showcase, Andrew Cripps, President of International Theatrical Distribution, emphasized the studio’s unwavering dedication to the theatrical experience. “That’s still our business, plain and simple,” he asserted while celebrating Warner Bros’ recent box office achievements. Notably, the studio surpassed the $1 billion mark at the international box office in April, achieving this milestone faster than any other studio this year.
Cripps also highlighted the newly announced deal to distribute Apple Original Films’ Formula 1 movie, directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt. He described it as “a cinematic event perhaps unlike any other,” which was met with enthusiastic applause.
Additionally, attendees were treated to behind-the-scenes footage of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, featuring Michael Keaton. Dancers dressed as characters from the afterlife in the film performed on stage to Harry Belafonte’s “Day-O,” adding to the spectacle. Michael Keaton and Catherine O’Hara introduced the trailer via video. The film will begin its international rollout on September 4 and open domestically on September 6.
The presentation also included sneak peeks at several upcoming films: M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap, Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga, Amazon MGM’s Blink Twice from Zoe Kravitz, Red One starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17, and the documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story.
While no live talent appeared at the event, many renowned figures sent video messages to thank European exhibitors and introduce clips. Notable mentions included Shyamalan, Kravitz, Channing Tatum, Peter Jackson, Bong, Robert Pattinson, James Gunn, and Jack Black.
